Closed: MI3 Beta Reader Openings–Poker Players Wanted

Thanks to everyone who applied to Beta Read Games Demons Play! The response was overwhelming. All the beta reader positions are filled at this time and have been notified.

I’m looking for honest readers who are interested in Beta reading the third Mystic Isle book, Games Demons Play (GDP).

Having read books 1 & 2 is highly recommended as part of the job description is to catch author goof ups. *g*

Also, I’m looking for people with gaming experience: blackjack, poker and roulette, specifically. Portions of the book take place in a casino and well, I’m not a gambler and no amount of research makes me comfortable with all that crazy lingo and math. Smile

What Are Beta Readers and Why Do I Utilize Them?

Beta Reading is an important part of my process. Betas are my first glimpse into what readers will think of a book, how they’ll react to characters, what they find believable or not.

Note: The pickier you are, the better. If you can honestly say you’ve found one of my books to be lacking, all the better. I’m not looking for “yes men” or folks looking for a free read. So if that’s you, head on over to the Free Readspage.

How It Works

Beta Readers receive a chapter at a time, via email. Access to and an understanding of Word’s Track Changes is highly appreciated and helps me revise faster. I set a pretty brisk pace. Usually a day or two turn around per chapter is what I’m after. If I get enough feedback to consider the book ready for my editor and you’re not finished reading, additional chapters will not be sent.

I generally send Beta readers who make it to the end an exit survey, asking them general questions about the book. Further and more specific requests are sent to selected betas with the chapters.

What’s In It For You?

  • A free sneak peak of one of my books.
  • The opportunity to help an author craft a book.
  • A book with your name in the dedication box.
  • My eternal and undying gratitude.
  • An exclusive first look at the cover art for GDP.
  • Soft fuzzy puppies. (Okay, no soft fuzzy puppies, but you saw the part about my eternal gratitude, right?)

So:

If you’re picky about plot and story line…

If you are particular about the characters you love…

If you’re a grammar guru…

If you’re a pacing hound…

If you enjoy giving feedback…

If you like hot, steamy paranormal romance…

If you can read a novella in the next two weeks…

If you like helping authors out…

and you can start Monday, the 25th…

Send me answers to the following:

  1. Have you read Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe and A Werewolf to Call Her Own?
  2. Do you have any experience playing poker, blackjack or roulette? Have you ever played in or watched a poker tournament?
  3. Have you ever beta read for an author?
  4. What are some of your pet peeves regarding stories/characters?

Past Beta Readers

Beta readers who’ve worked with me in the past are welcome to send a note stating that they have time for GDP. I am, however, using a new email address to keep my inbox tidy. beta@selena-blake.com

Previous Applicants

If you’re available next week and have applied to beta read for me before, you’re welcome to send me a note with questions 1 & 2 answered. I should have your answers to 3 & 4 in my folder. Thanks!
