What Are Beta Readers and Why Do I Utilize Them?
Beta Reading is an important part of my process. Betas are my first glimpse into what readers will think of a book, how they’ll react to characters, what they find believable or not.
Note: The pickier you are, the better. If you can honestly say you’ve found one of my books to be lacking, all the better. I’m not looking for “yes men” or folks looking for a free read. So if that’s you, head on over to the Free Reads page.
How It Works
Beta Readers receive a chapter or three at a time. I’m attempting something new this time by using Google Docs. Which means you’ll be able to leave comments and see what other beta readers thought at the same time.
I set a pretty brisk pace. Usually a day or two turn around per chapter is what I’m after. If I get enough feedback to consider the book ready for my editor and you’re not finished reading, additional chapters will not be sent.
I generally send Beta readers who make it to the end an exit survey, asking them general questions about the book. Further and more specific requests are sent to selected betas with the chapters.
